Gladys Remembers Her Father’s
Stories
“On Sunday nights in our church they used to have evening
services and either my mother or father would go. We used to coax
my mother to go to church because my dad told the best stories.
He would tell us about his boyhood in Norway and he told that
he was the shepherd of the sheep and a lot of times he stayed
out in the fields at night…”
(From interviews with Gladys Albrecht in
the mid 1980s)
Whose stories would you regret not capturing?

father, mother and brothers circa 1916 |
In 1927,
Gladys’ father returned to his
boyhood home in Norway. Here he and
his father work the fields of the family
farm. It was the last time the two men
would ever see each other. |
